When I was a senior in high school, my admissions counselor told me about the Hispanic Assistance Fund. I was so excited to find out about the fund that I immediately asked him to send me an application. He was a little hesitant about sending one because at that point, the fund was empty. By faith, he sent an application anyway. The following semester I was informed that I had been accepted for the Hispanic Assistance Fund scholarship. I had been praying that God would show me direction concerning the next school year, and He did! God blessed the Fund, and that made it possible for me to receive some financial help.
Psalm 116:1 says, "I love the Lord, because He has heard my voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live." God heard my prayers, and because of the generous gift I received from the Hispanic Assistance Fund, I am here this school year. It is a privilege to attend Bob Jones University and an honor to be a recipient of the scholarship.

The Hispanic Assistance Fund has been a great lesson in trust for me. I applied for it the first semester of my freshman year when the program was still being developed. At that moment I had no idea that the Lord would wait until the following summer to give me the answer that I needed.
You see, I had been struggling with trusting God for my finances. I did not have the money to come back first semester, much less did I have the money to stay the whole year. I didn't know how or when or if the money would come, but I was trusting that somehow the Lord would make provision for my needs. I know that God wants me at Bob Jones University. My mom likes to say, "If that's where the Lord wants you, He'll provide." These words have proved themselves to be true in my life. The Lord did provide and it was through the Hispanic Assistance Fund that He chose to work.

I was born in Mexico City in 1978, and was born again when I accepted Christ as my Savior five years later.
Since I was about thirteen, I was convinced that I would study in the United States of America. This was a desire that the Lord had put in my heart. However, I faced three problems: I didn't know where to study, what to study, or how to afford my studies.
The first two problems were answered by faithfully seeking God's will. The Lord providentially guided me to Bob Jones University. As I sought His will regarding my major, He made it clear that I should pursue a degree in Music Education. The last problem, regarding finances, wasn't as simple. Thankfully, the Lord has provided in diverse ways. At first, various donations helped me pay for school. Then, the Lord continued to provide through the student work program. However, as my student-teaching semester approached, I realized I would not be able to continue working. As a result, a vital source of income would be gone. Without those funds, I would not be able to continue my studies.
What joy and thanksgiving filled my heart the day that I found out about the Hispanic Assistance Fund! I found out that they would be able to help me financially. I know the Lord answers prayer, for I have seen His mighty hand supplying for all my needs according to his riches in glory.
"O fear the LORD, ye His saints: for there is no want to them that fear Him." Psalm 34:9
