What is the purpose of the Hispanic Assistance Fund (HAF)?

The Hispanic Assistance Fund is a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose purpose is to grant scholarships to qualified Hispanics in order to enable them to study at Bob Jones University and to enable them to be prepared in the essentials of knowledge and the Christian faith.

How long has the Hispanic Assistance Fund been in existence?

The HAF began in 2001. The need for financial assistance is great, but with continued participation from individuals, corporations, and private foundations, the Fund hopes to provide financial assistance to hundreds of additional students in the future.

Who oversees the Hispanic Assistance Fund?

The HAF is governed by a three-member volunteer Board of Trustees, all of whom are themselves of Hispanic descent. The volunteer board members are responsible for reviewing each potential grantee's application, interviewing each applicant, and determining which students are most qualified.

Who is eligible to apply for a scholarship from the Hispanic Assistance Fund?

Students of Hispanic descent who plan to attend Bob Jones University are eligible to apply.

How many scholarships are generally granted?

The HAF grants anywhere from 10 to 20 scholarships per year, depending upon the amount of funding available, the number of applicants, and the financial need of each applicant. Our hope is that as the Lord continues to bless the Fund, the HAF will be able to give even more scholarships.

What is the typical scholarship grant by the Hispanic Assistance Fund?

The Hispanic Assistance Fund may provide anywhere from $1500-$3700 per student per semester.

What is the Hispanic Assistance Fund's relationship with Bob Jones University?

The Hispanic Assistance Fund is a separate, independent tax-exempt fund that was created by individuals who love the school, who are of Hispanic descent themselves, and who desire to see more Hispanic students enrolled at BJU to be trained for the service of Jesus Christ.

What can I give to the Hispanic Assistance Fund?

You may give cash or any type of property to the HAF, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, real estate, and collectibles. You may also wish to include the HAF in your estate plans. View the Giving Opportunities tab on this site for many giving options, or contact Daniel Hicks, the Board Liaison, for assistance.

How can I give to the Hispanic Assistance Fund?

The greatest current need is outright gifts of cash or other property. However, the HAF is an excellent partner for a Charitable Remainder Trust, a Charitable Lead Trust, or for naming as a beneficiary under a Last Will & Testament, Living Trust, or life insurance policy. The HAF's Board Liaison, Daniel Hicks, can recommend an estate planning attorney in your area who can help you execute these or other documents. The Giving Opportunities tab on this site provides additional information regarding several giving vehicles through which you may support the HAF.

How much of my donation will go toward Hispanic scholarships?

None of the Board members receive any compensation for their work. Other than printing, mailing, and other marketing costs, all donations are used to help financially needy Hispanic students.
